EnlightenNext: An international organization founded by Andrew Cohen

EnlightenNext Rishikesh

Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas on the banks of the Ganges is the sacred Indian town of Rishikesh. It was here in 1986 that Andrew Cohen first began to share with others the realization that was awakening in him. Since 1996 Andrew has returned to Rishikesh almost every year to lead retreats. The EnlightenNext Rishikesh Centre was opened in 1998.

In May 2008 the Centre moved to Green Valley Cottage, near the Swiss Bandhari Cottages in Tapovan. There is a weekly schedule of events and visitors are welcome to come any time to meditate, watch DVD’s about Evolutionary Enlightenment, or read from our library. Clean Himalaya

A few minutes walk from the Rishikesh centre is the workshop and home of Clean Himalaya. Clean Himalaya is a comprehensive and holistic waste management and recycling project which was started by Jitendra Kumar and other students of Andrew Cohen in 2000. In June 2007 Clean Himalaya won the World Bank India Development Marketplace Award for grass roots initiatives, and in September 2007 became an official Society or NGO.

Clean Himalaya is a growing operation with seven hired workers, a team of Indian and Western volunteers and an Executive Board with a wealth of experience in the environmental field. It currently serves 175 ashrams, guest houses, restaurants and households in the Laxmanjhula, Tapovan area and offers educational programs to schools and businesses, and conference presentations.

Reflections on India

by Andrew Cohen

My first visit to Mother India was in early January 1984. By that time, I had already been a very serious spiritual seeker for over six years. But in spite of that, there was a deep compulsion in me to go to India myself, even if only for a short time...
