Conferencing In Consciousness

by Tom Huston

What if, one day, perhaps while talking on the phone, you suddenly realized that you weren’t merely the individual human being you thought you were?

What if your usual sense of self fell away from the center of your attention, leaving you shockingly free from everything you previously identified with?

And what if you were to experience that miraculous condition not just on your own, but while engaging in dialogue with others who were discovering the very same thing?

That’s exactly what’s happening to many of Andrew Cohen’s students right now. Starting with a group of men from all around the globe, a series of conference calls have catalyzed an explosion in consciousness similar to the event of July 30, 2001 (which was chronicled in a previous post). It’s like a fire igniting everything in its path. Put simply, what’s occurring is a collective emergence of the liberating state and perspective of enlightened consciousness. The fruition of nearly twenty years of Andrew’s teachings, and at least ten years’ worth of his focused instruction and implorations, the true potential of Evolutionary Enlightenment is making its presence known in a way that hasn’t happened before—not with this much intensity, stability, and maturity, consuming this many of us in its wake. Not like this.

We’ll be posting a far more in-depth blog about it soon—attempting to explain how on earth this happened, what it is, and why we feel it’s so significant—but for now, take a look at some of the letters that are continuing to flood into Andrew’s inbox from his students around the world:

Dear Andrew,

The men had the most amazing call last night—it was like consciousness came into being between us with full force. What felt so significant was that it wasn’t merely experiential, it was developmental. It was like we were being guided by and as consciousness’s invisible hand, correcting, assessing, responding. It was what Ken Wilber described in your recent dialogue as laying the track AND driving the train. It was like a freight train of consciousness stretching out towards our infinite future.

I couldn’t begin to describe all the beautiful things that were said, and somehow that isn’t the point. It was the immovable context in which it is all occurring. It was like being in a hurricane of consciousness. So much happened, everyone was moving with it, but even that isn’t right because Consciousness was moving forward and we are all it. This non-locational unified consciousness hasn’t happened like this before—individuals all over the planet connected everywhere.... I could hear some of the younger guys in Europe light up with recognition of this ONE thing, older guys letting go of patterns, all of it irrelevant in the miracle of this unfolding unity. And yet always moving forward, forward, forward, but tension free....

Increasingly I feel unhinged, like I’m slightly drunk and can’t find references. But this isn’t some hazy glow, it’s fierce clarity born of profound relaxation. It is stable even as it propels us forward. Gone were the fears of losing this—there is a stability that comes not from being something or someone who is “stable,” but from the knowledge of its inherent stability as consciousness; inherently free, stable even as it moves forward at light speed. There is no reason to try to stay on track because there is no track other than the one being created before your very own eyes as consciousness itself.

Dear Andrew,

There has never been a meeting among us like there was on our call tonight. After an hour and a quarter of being washed through by a breathtakingly impersonal, unified consciousness that was endlessly unknown, we recognized it: This is what’s supposed to have been happening all along.... It was so profoundly uncynical to be with these men, some of whom I know well, others whom I’m just beginning to know, in a mood of such unfathomable positivity, interested in only the best and glued onto only the highest. It is another world where history is forgotten, limitlessness is reality, and our places as cells in your one student body are made palpably manifest, many nodes in the exploding structure of one consciousness.

Dear Andrew,

The most significant thing that comes to mind about last night’s meeting is the profound sense of unity among us. Sober and mature, yet all-consuming unity that sweeps one off one’s feet, challenging all the existential duality that is at the core of our psyche. Out of that solid, sumptuous non-duality comes a profound relaxation, not the kind of relaxation that one normally talks about when the muscles and mind settle down but an existential relaxation, born of Trust, born of the expansion of consciousness, born as a shift of identification to this sea of non-local consciousness, and, as a result, the profound feeling of being at home with everyone and everything....

Yes, the habitual duality-born-fear repeatedly tries to rear its head; but like a scared tortoise, it has to retreat into its shell, because it realizes that things simply are not that way anymore. Things have profoundly changed, in a way that seems irreversible. I am assaulted by the absolute perspective of life—a total, all-body, all-mind, all-emotional assault that feels delightfully invincible.

Dear Andrew,

I just wanted to let you know about the meeting Bob, Stuart, Eb, and I had last night. It was maybe the most powerful experience of enlightened consciousness that I have ever experienced. We all just sat down and it was like our authentic selves leaped out of our skins into the middle and rejoiced in its ever-unfolding discovery. What it meant to be Free redefined itself, because it was not just me being Free, but the universe itself was free in being completely abandoned, not wanting to hold on to anything or to be anyone at all. It was total emptiness but absolutely whole—I've never felt more myself. After the meeting, we sat silent for a seriously long time, totally unable to move.

Dear Andrew,

The meditation that is alive here today is powerful; last night after meditation I found myself really understanding why it’s called the causal realm—it’s where all creation comes from—and it’s not only the place of rest but one of constant potential. It seems that these simple understandings are coming to us all—that this consciousness that is starting to stir and swirl about us all is bringing a deeper and higher wavelength of our contemplation to the fore. It’s transforming us in such a gentle way, and yet it feels that nothing internal is happening (I think that’s why it also feels out of one’s grasp and even disorientating). Is it that what is occurring is in the “inter-subjective” realm? So it’s not really me or an individual that is changing but what’s between us and so the very fabric of relationship. And yet I feel that we don’t have to leave our own seat of being to comprehend this—in fact, the more we don’t move, I feel the stronger the appreciation gets that what is happening is somehow already so.

Dear Andrew,

There is no doubt that something extraordinary is happening in consciousness between the men. Those of us in Boston got together and again shifted immediately into that condition where the mind disengaged in a strange way from one’s usual reference points, the familiar and habitual thoughts and positions of the ego, and we fell into that expanded wholeness beyond our separate identities.  We were able to navigate freely in this space together like never before, describing what is clearly enlightened consciousness from our own experience together, exploring the significance of this consciously engaged meditation, the nature of our relationships with each other in it, the quality of not-knowing that is nonetheless completely available to respond, the simplicity of this one thing and only one thing happening in a world beyond concept.  It was absolutely stunning to be looking together at this state that you have described a thousand times, something that could clearly never be seen from behind the fear of the ego, and to feel the foundation of reality shifting underneath us.  No question, this is the most powerful meeting I have ever experienced.
