Peace Is Not the AnswerUsing several short excerpts from the magazine (an editorial by Andrew Cohen, a dialog with Ken Wilber, and an exploration of conflict and peace by Carter Phipps), we'll explore our how the desire for peace – the oft-touted and noble goal of the spiritual path – may be interpreted in ways that are misguided at best. This conversation will shed light on many dimensions of human life, from recasting our role as players on a universal stage, to exposing fundamental strengths and weaknesses of the geopolitical wrangling in the news every day. Come prepared for the dynamic and creative friction that any conversation about God and politics in DC is certain to produce.
Evolutionary Enlightenment WorkshopSunday, June 29 12-5pm1601 Connecticut Ave. NW Washington, DC A Life of Meaning and PurposeSo many of us in modern times have given up the spiritual worldviews of the great traditions that have directed the course of human history for centuries, often without acquiring new and deeper guiding principles. Lacking an overarching philosophical context, it becomes impossible to assess value and make distinctions. In this workshop, we’ll examine deeply held ideas about life through exploring the philosophical framework that lies at the heart of Andrew Cohen's teaching of Evolutionary Enlightenment. This teaching, which might better be described as an enlightened cosmology, reveals that the purpose of human life lies in our unique ability as human beings to consciously participate in the evolution of consciousness. The afternoon will consist of periods of discussion as well as meditation.
