Andrew Cohen’s teaching of Evolutionary Enlightenment presents a revolutionary new potential for individual and collective human development that is just emerging in consciousness. Using multimedia presentations and dialogue, this five-week course systematically explores the fundamental principles and philosophy of this contemporary enlightenment teaching. Each week’s class meeting time is followed by online discussion forums, readings, and reflection exercises.
Course Outline:
1) What Is Enlightenment? — In the opening session, we explore the profoundly liberating insight that enlightenment is not only an experience but a perspective that is available to us even in the midst of our ever-changing emotional states.
2) Context Is Everything — Next, we discuss the personal, cultural, and global contexts for our lives and discover how embracing the largest possible context, one that is truly universal in scope, makes it possible for us to consciously evolve.
3) Meditation and the Ground of Being — In our third session, we discover how to free ourselves of constant fixation on thought and feeling through Andrew Cohen’s simple and profound instructions for meditation. These instructions bring us to an expansive awareness of the field of consciousness itself.
4) The Ego and the Authentic Self — Learning to distinguish between the two fundamental aspects of human nature—the ego, which has no interest in change, and the authentic self, which cares only about evolving, changing, and creating the future—is essential for liberation.. This session teaches us how to discern these two diametrically opposed parts of the self in our experience.
5) The Five Fundamental Tenets of Enlightenment — In the final session, we learn to live in accordance with these fundamental principles that define a truly liberated relationship to the human experience. Living these principles makes it possible to participate in the evolution of consciousness itself
